1. Three Birds Renovations:
This trio of women in Australia has a wealth of knowledge on the entire renovation process! From financing a renovation, to budgeting, to planning, to design and more, they’ve got you covered every step of the way. They’ve even started their own renovation school to prepare homeowners for remodeling.
2. Bob Vila:
Former host of This Old House on HGTV, Bob is a well-known renovation and DIY expert. After restoring his first home in Massachusetts in the 70’s, Bob has continued to restore older homes professionally and advise homeowners on how to do the same. His website gives practical tips for homeowners from the big to the little. Want to know why your dryer is making a funny noise, or how to increase curb appeal for cheap? Bob is your guy.
3. Sweeten:
Another renovation start-up we admire, Sweeten connects homeowners with contractors in cities all over the country. On Sweeten’s blog, you can find restoration and renovation stories featuring dreamy photoshoots of newly remodeled homes. It’s dangerously persuasive.
4. Renovate Happy:
Renovate Happy is Synergy Design/Build Firm’s blog. Located in Reston, VA, this firm specializes in bathrooms, kitchens, and other remodeling projects. If you’re looking to read up on remodeling trends to get inspo for your project, check them out!
5. Mom’s Design Build:
Another awesome Design/Build Firm in Minnesota, Mom’s blog has the expertise and practical home advice to make your house look like it’s being featured in Better Homes & Gardens every single day.
6. The Millennial Homeowner:
If you’re looking for a total guide on homeownership, this is the place for you. Let’s face it, there’s an overwhelming amount of information to take in before buying your first home - down payments, mortgages, house hunting, realtors, packing, etc. - and this site has guides on all of it. They even have a whole section dedicated to mortgage calculator tools to help you figure out what you can afford based on your financial situation.
7. Apartment Therapy:
Contrary to the name, Apartment Therapy isn’t just for apartment owners. Their articles cover home repair tips, real estate, and DIY decor tips. We especially love their home tours which offer plenty of interior design inspiration. Before and Afters, furniture recs and home buying advice really have us hooked to their content.
8. Remodelista:
Remodelista is a site started by four friends with a passion for good home design. You can use the site to find a designer, get top style picks, and get advice on classic remodeling projects. Remodelista takes home style to a whole new level of sophistication.
9. Dwell:
We’re pretty big fans of Dwell over here at RenoFi. Dwell is a publication for renovation professionals and enthusiasts alike, featuring some of the best home renovation projects all over the country. If you have an eye for design, this site will be a breath of fresh air! It’s like an art gallery, but for home renovations.
10. Design Everest:
More interested in home construction and engineering? Design Everest’s blog might be for you. DE provides architectural and engineering services for California residents - and their blog provides a wealth of information on those subjects. From ADUs to mixed-use buildings to CA building permits, there’s a lot to learn.
